At long last, real Chicago pizza in Los Angeles
We've tried BJ's "Chicago" Pizza. Ha. That's as Chicago as Taco Bell is Mexican. But I figured that Joe Mantegna and his wife wouldn't lead me wrong. Joe is real Chicago. You can tell it the second he opens his mouth. So my wife and I trekked up to Burbank to check out Taste Chicago. There were some good signs when we walked in. Autographed pictures of Bozo and the band Chicago, and a home plate with autographs from a number of Leo Durocher's Cubs. The menu is expansive and contains a number of favorites from the old neighborhood. I had originally planned on just getting an Italian beef sandwich (Philippe's French dip is but a pale imitation of this heavenly concoction), but my wife felt that it was worth gambling on getting the 14" deep-dish pizza.
As you can tell from the picture, we did in fact like it. We got ours with green peppers, onions and mushrooms and it was quite delicious. Now we have to run in the morning. We'll definitely be back, although with the distance from our place to Burbank, I'm not sure we'll be going often enough for me to dive into the rest of the menu.
